DIGITAL FABRICATION - "Magic Carpet"
Inspired by Jürgen Mayer H.'s Metropol Parasol. Magic Carpet explores the potential of waffling for roofing structures and the resulting geometries created by interlinking members. Additional information about waffling in architecture and Metropol Parasol can be found here.
Waffled in three axes using Grasshopper (parametric visual scripting software) and Rhino3D (3D modelling software) were used to experiment with potential design outcomes.
Magic Carpet was assembled from 41 individually laser cut pieces of clear 3mm acrylic plastic.
The design was featured and exhibited as part of the 2016 Luminosity event at UNSW Oct 2016.
Designed and fabricated by Matthew Trilsbeck, April 2016
